On August\u00a016, 2021, the USGS issued the FY22\u00a0Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for 3D Elevation Program (3DEP<\/a>).\u00a0The BAA provides\u00a0a vehicle for partnering\u00a0with the USGS and other Federal agencies to acquire high-resolution\u00a03DEP\u00a0data.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a03DEP\u00a0BAA is a public process to develop partnerships for the collection of lidar and derived elevation data for 3DEP.\u00a0The 3DEP BAA provides an opportunity for\u00a0ongoing\u00a0national\u00a0collaboration so\u00a0that\u00a0Federal, State, and local\u00a0governments, the private sector, and citizens may have access to and derive benefits\u00a0from\u00a03D elevation data.\u00a0More information about the BAA process is available at\u00a0https:\/\/usgs.gov\/3DEP\/BAA<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Proposals are due by\u00a05:00 pm Eastern\u00a0October 8, 2021.<\/p>\n

Applicants\u00a0may contribute funds toward lidar data acquisition via the\u00a0Geospatial Products and Services Contracts<\/a>\u00a0or they may request 3DEP funds toward lidar data acquisition where the requesting partner\u00a0manages the data acquisition contract.\u00a0Federal agencies, State and local governments, Tribes, academic institutions, and the private sector are eligible to submit proposals.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

About 3DEP\u00a0and the BAA\u00a0<\/p>\n

To respond to growing needs for high-quality elevation data, the goal of 3DEP is to complete\u00a0acquisition of nationwide lidar (IfSAR\u00a0in AK) to provide the first-ever national baseline of consistent high-resolution topographic elevation data \u2013 both bare earth and 3D point clouds \u2013 collected in a timeframe of less than a decade.\u00a0High-quality elevation data are critical to\u00a0a wide array\u00a0of nationally significant applications including\u00a0flood-risk management,\u00a0infrastructure management, critical minerals exploration,\u00a0alternative\u00a0energy development,\u00a0natural-hazard evaluation and mitigation,\u00a0agriculture and\u00a0resource management,\u00a0and\u00a0conservation.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

3DEP is designed to provide more than $690 million annually in benefits to government entities, the private sector and citizens. The\u00a0program\u00a0presents\u00a0a unique opportunity for collaboration between all levels of government to leverage the services and expertise of\u00a0private-sector mapping firms that acquire the data and to create jobs now and in the future.\u00a0\u00a0More information about 3DEP can be found at\u00a0https:\/\/usgs.gov\/3DEP.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since 2015, more\u00a0than\u00a0300\u00a0federal,\u00a0state, local, and non-government partners have collaborated to\u00a0acquire\u00a0more than\u00a02.7\u00a0million square miles\u00a0of 3DEP\u00a0data\u00a0across the\u00a0nation.\u00a0At the end of FY20,\u00a03DEP data\u00a0were\u00a0available or in-work for\u00a0more than\u00a078%\u00a0of the nation\u00a0and are\u00a0available for download\u00a0through\u00a0The National Map.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n
