ADS are delighted to announce a joint event in collaboration with DLA Piper. This event will consider a range of themes from the commercialisation of space and the future of the UK space industry to establishing responsible behaviours and regulation to build mutual confidence in the space sector. It will explore the intersection between commercialisation, sustainability, and space, prompt discussion regarding the key steps needed to establish the right environment for growth and explore the compelling reasons why players in the space sector need to prioritise sustainability in their endeavours.<\/p>\n
This event presents an abundance of opportunities across space \u2013 thousands of satellites are expected to be launched between now and 2030 as technology and processes continue to be developed which increasingly facilitate novel and innovative missions (particularly with the assistance of AI and robotics).<\/p>\n
The orbital environment is, however, becoming congested. Given the increased risk of debris creation in a congested orbit, this issue could become compounded and self-fulfilling if not meaningfully addressed. This could affect the risk profile relating to future missions. As a result, operators could, for example, become more exposed to liabilities (in terms of number and quantum), and could find it more difficult to obtain insurance policies (or otherwise incur significantly increased insurance premia) in relation to such missions. This could therefore affect the commercial palatability (and, in the worst-case scenario, viability) of future missions.<\/p>\n
