Copernicus data & services
All Copernicus data is free and open. The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) holds the full Sentinel archive and the tools to view, process and download it. Here is what is available and the quickest way in.
The satellites
Radar (C-band SAR)
All-weather, day-and-night imaging. Flood mapping, ploughing and mowing detection, ship detection and ground motion.
In Ireland: Floods on the Shannon · vessels off the west coast
SENTINEL-2Multispectral optical, 10 m
13 spectral bands for vegetation, crops, forests, water quality, burn scars and land cover.
In Ireland: Grass growth · forest change · coastal sediment
SENTINEL-3Ocean & land colour, temperature
Ocean colour, sea and land surface temperature, and altimetry at national to ocean-basin scale.
In Ireland: Algal blooms · Atlantic sea temperature
SENTINEL-5PAtmospheric composition
Daily global maps of NO₂, methane, ozone, carbon monoxide and aerosols.
In Ireland: Dublin NO₂ · smoke from fires
Copernicus Services data
Products from the Land, Marine, Atmosphere and Emergency services, ready for monitoring and disaster response.
CollectionContributing Missions
Very high-resolution optical and radar data from commercial and national missions that complement the Sentinels.
CollectionComplementary data
Curated and commercial imagery, digital elevation models and other datasets.
CollectionFederated data sets
Datasets from other European data back-ends, added over time.
The six Copernicus services
If you need an answer more than raw imagery, start with a service. Each turns satellite and in-situ data into products such as flood maps, ocean forecasts or climate indicators.
Land Monitoring
Land cover, CORINE, vegetation, water and snow
CMEMSMarine
Ocean physics, sea state and biogeochemistry
C3SClimate Change
ERA5, climate indicators, seasonal forecasts
CAMSAtmosphere
Air quality, greenhouse gases, UV
CEMSEmergency Management
Rapid mapping, EFAS floods, EFFIS fires
SECURITYSecurity
Border and maritime support for authorised users
Tools to view, process and download
Choose by how you work. No code: the Browser and Data Workspace. Code: notebooks, openEO and APIs.
Copernicus Browser
View, compare and download imagery in a web browser.
No codeData Workspace
Order and create EO products on demand through a graphical interface.
CatalogueSTAC Browser
Search the full catalogue with the open STAC standard.
CodeJupyterLab
Python notebooks next to the data, so you process without downloading.
CodeopenEO
Build, run and monitor processing workflows in Python, R or JavaScript.
CodeSentinel Hub
OGC WMS/WMTS and processing APIs for web maps and apps. Powers the EODataHub map.
CodeAPIs
Catalogue, download and processing APIs for automated pipelines.
TrustTraceability
Check product integrity and provenance from origin to download.
Ask the Irish Copernicus Ambassador
Not sure which dataset answers your question? We help Irish agencies, companies and researchers find the right Copernicus data and point them to training.
Email eodatahub@mu.ie with a line on what you want to monitor and where. We will suggest the data, a tool and an Irish contact who has done something similar.
