Follow-up: Education/training in the Space sector XIV: The role of academia in strengthening space ecosystems in Europe
NEREUS organised on the 29 October 2024, 11.00-12.30, the 14th infosession on education/training in the space sector focused on the crucial role of academia to enhance the regional space ecosystem aims to explore and discuss synergies and goals at a European and global level.
Prof. Tadeusz Uhl – Director of the Space Technology Center of the AGH University of Science and Technology shared AGH University’s approach to ensuring their research and educational programs are in sync with the dynamic needs of the space industry, both in Europe and globally. A key part of AGH’s strategy is an emphasis on collaborative projects with industry players, focusing on developing skills that match the latest demands. Through joint initiatives with European space agencies and industry partners, the university aligns its research outputs and curricula with current and future trends in space technology and applications. By fostering an ecosystem where students and researchers can work on real-world applications, AGH helps accelerate the translation of research into market-ready solutions, reinforcing the value of academic institutions in space industry ventures.
Jarosław Chojnacki provided insights from a regional perspective, focusing on Krakow Technology Park’s role as a facilitator of collaborations between academic institutions and space companies. The park supports regional innovation through tailored funding models, including public-private partnerships and grants from EU space programs, which have proven effective in bolstering regional space research and development. Highlighting the role of both public and private funding, Mr. Chojnacki discussed the importance of long-term investment strategies to sustain space research and innovation.
