Fireside Chat with Lieutenent-General Sir Tom Copinger-Symes
ADS are delighted to host Lieutentant-General Sir T R Copinger-Symes KCB CBE – Deputy Commander Cyber & Specialist Operations Command and Director-General Force Development for a Fireside Chat, he will discuss the SDR and what that means for UK Defence and the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command.
General Tom is passionate about using technology, such as AI, to improve our own cyber capabilities, identify skills and talent in the existing workforce, and collaborate and communicate with our allies.
He will explore how advancing multi-domain integration aligns with the government’s vision for more interoperable British forces, and how emerging areas like e-sports can help the defence industry attract talent through new and unconventional recruitment pathways.
Biography
Lieutentant-General Sir T R Copinger-Symes KCB CBE – Deputy Commander Cyber & Specialist Operations Command and Director-General Force Development
Tom spent his early career with The Rifles on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, and in operational and strategy posts at the Permanent Joint Headquarters and Ministry of Defence.
For the past 10 years he has focused on how the Army and Defence can make better use of its data and information, whether in its traditional supporting role, or employed as a weapon in its own right. This has included command at the Brigade and Divisional-level and his last role as Director Strategy & Military Digitisation in Defence Digital.
In May 22, he took post as DComd UKStratCom, now Cyber & Specialist Operations Command. He is responsible for overseeing Defence’s Multi Domain Integration programme, as well as a host of other change and capability project across campaigning, integration and cyber.
Tom is also Colonel Commandant of The Rifles and Honorary of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. He is married with two school age daughters.
