Copernicus4Regions Breakfast Debate with Members of the Council’s Space Working Group Friday, 20 November 2026 | 08:30–09:45 Residence Palace, Brussels
The European Commission, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies (NEREUS) invite participants to a high-level breakfast debate bringing together members of the Council’s Space Working Group and representatives of the regional community.
The event will provide an opportunity to exchange views on the role of the Copernicus Earth Observation programme in supporting regional and local authorities, while highlighting concrete user experiences that demonstrate the value of satellite data for public policies and territorial development. The discussion will be complemented by a presentation of user experiences from European regions, illustrating the added value of Copernicus in areas including agriculture, water management and environmental protection:

-
Earth observation data for regional land cover map updating— Veneto Region, Italy (link)
-
Monitoring Groundwater-Dependent Habitats Using Sentinel-1 SAR — Ireland
The discussion will also foster dialogue between European institutional stakeholders and regional actors, helping strengthen the connection between Europe’s space ambitions and the needs of its territories and citizens. By bringing the European policy perspective into conversation with regional applications, the breakfast debate aims to raise awareness of the opportunities offered by Copernicus and encourage greater uptake of space-based information across Europe’s regions.
Participation is by invitation only.
